Embracing Change and Growth
This past year has been a transformative journey for me. I've learned so much about myself and the areas of my life that needed nurturing. I like to think my creative side is finally finding its voice. Last summer, I took a class on writing and publishing. It opened my eyes to possibilities I hadn’t considered before. Inspired by what I learned, I wrote and published my first book. It was less about being serious and more about enjoying the process of writing and publishing.
In addition to writing, I embarked on a wood project that I found online. This was a significant milestone for me, as I’ve never seen myself as particularly creative or artistic. Writing has always been a passion of mine, but I kept it to myself for far too long.
The Road Trip Adventure
Earlier this spring, I decided to create a wood project for a family member. However, shipping it proved to be a challenge. So, we opted for a road trip instead. What started as a grand plan gradually scaled down to a more relaxed journey. We had no concrete plans, allowing each day to unfold as it would.
We set off a day later than we had planned. The fall colors along the loneliest highway were breathtaking. Our conversations were quiet yet meaningful. We took turns driving and eventually checked into a pet-friendly hotel. My traveling partner and life partner reminisced about his past stays there, and I loved listening to his stories.

Exploring Moab
We spent a few days in Moab, one of my favorite places. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed an afternoon of golf. We also took a quick tour through Arches National Park, which was bustling with visitors due to the government shutdown. One afternoon, we relaxed in our hotel room, listening to a thunderstorm outside. We even enjoyed two delightful dinners out.
As my book, Untangled, was about to be released, my mind was filled with ideas and expectations. I must admit, my reality didn’t quite match my expectations. I often feel like I’m running behind, with my ducks never in a row, and a few chickens thrown in there just to mess with me. Details tend to slip through the cracks for me. Yet, I learn best through experience, which means I make many mistakes and "fail forward."

Scenic Drives and Nostalgic Stories
One of the most beautiful drives was from Moab to Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The fall scenery was spectacular. My partner, the ultimate tour guide, shared stories about the charming old mining towns we passed. We strolled through the town and enjoyed a lovely dinner together.
As we headed to Denver, we drove through Dillon and the A-Basin area in Colorado. I cherished hearing my partner’s stories about his younger days. He was happy to share memories of simpler times filled with fun and promise. It was heartwarming to watch him and listen to his stories. Happy times in his life. I was honored that he could share those special memories with me.
Upon reaching our destination, I delivered the wood project, which needed a few repairs. A quick trip to the hardware store was in order, and we planned to hang it the next day. We also squeezed in more golf adventures before heading home.
The Joy of Road Trips
I’m discovering a newfound love for road trips. The freedom of having no agenda feels like a luxury. When I travel alone, I often stop to explore museums just off the highway or take detours to see where a road leads. I want to do more of that!
I find that when I’m driving, walking, or biking, my mind clears. It’s during these moments that I meditate and listen to my thoughts. After these trips, I often return brimming with ideas and too many things to implement.
As I grow older, I’m learning that slowing down actually helps me speed up. Focusing on one small project at a time allows me to accomplish more. I know many of you understand this, but for me, it’s been a revelation. I’ve often prioritized others’ needs over my own, compromising my own desires. The truth is, I didn’t know how to pursue my passions or who to ask for help.
Learning Patience and Acceptance
I still find myself "failing forward," but now I know to seek advice from those who have walked the path I want to take. Learning to be patient with myself is part of this journey.
Listening to my partner’s stories and watching him relive his memories requires patience for various reasons. He has also had to be patient with me. Sometimes, he doesn’t fully understand what I do or why I want to pursue my passions. I can be quiet and distant, but I truly love what I’m doing now. I hope he’ll want to join me on future road trips.
This recent adventure has sparked something in me. I feel the urge to share my message with the world. I’ll be reaching out to find speaking opportunities. The Untangled Journal will be available soon to accompany the book, so keep an eye out for that in the coming months. I’d love for you to order the book and share your thoughts with me. Your stories mean a lot!
On Monday, January 12th, at 9:00 am, I will be hosting a Zoom call discussing what's in my book, Untangled. Please join me. You can email me any questions at hello@nadeanmusic.com
